Professor Malcolm Longair (Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge) will be giving a special public lecture on "Maxwell and the mechanical origins of Maxwell's equations".
Professor Longair is a former Astronomer Royal for Scotland, and is currently editor of Biographical Memoirs of the Royal Society. He will be receiving an honorary degree from St Andrews in the afternoon.
