Our annual Xmas meeting at the Birmingham and Midland Institue in central Birmingham (see attached document for travel information).

This is always a well-supported and enjoyable day.  Please do consider attending.

The day will trace concepts of chance from the fifteenth century to their formulation into a sophisticated, important and evolving theory in the twenty first. Speakers are: David Singmaster, Fenny Smith, Tony Mann, Norman Biggs, Herve Moulin and Bernhard Stengel. See attached programme for full speaker details.

10.35: David Singmaster ‘The Unexpected Utility of Recreational Mathematics

11.15: Fenny Smith ‘Early Concepts of Probability as Illustrated in Late 15th C works on Commercial Arithmetic.

11.55: Norman Biggs ‘Game, Set and Match.

12.35-13.45: Lunch

13.45: Two short BSHM members' talks

14.25: Herve Moulin ‘The subplot of Cooperative Game Theory

15.05: Tea

15.20: Tony Mann ‘The Prisoner’s Dilemma: from Paradox to Powerful Tool.

1600: Bernhard von Stengel ‘Game Theory in the Last Half Century’

17.00: Expected finish for the day

Fee £25 for BSHM/BMI members (£35 for non-members) and £15 for under-25years: this includes coffee/tea and a good standard buffet-style lunch.
