Research in Progress
Research in Progress
Our annual meeting which provides an opportunity for research students in any area of the history of mathematics to present their work to a friendly and supportive audience. The meeting will be held in person only, and will be held in English.
This year our keynote speaker will be Tinne Hoff Kjeldsen.
The day before, the ICHM will be holding a satellite meeting, also in Oxford, to celebrate honours recently awarded to historians of mathematics. Find out more.
Call for Papers
Research students who are interested in offering a presentation are invited to send a proposed title and abstract (of no more than 250 words) to Christopher Hollings <christopher.hollings@maths.ox.ac.uk> by 30th November 2025. Please include details of your university, supervisor, and whether you are a PhD or a Masters student. The organisers will be in touch shortly thereafter with a decision. Talks will be around 20 minutes each (followed by time for questions).
Registration costs will be waived for speakers, but unfortunately we are unable to guarantee travel or accommodation expenses. If you would like to request funding to speak at the meeting please state this when you submit your abstract, and include a provisional budget for your expected expenses.
The day is expected to begin around 10am, and to conclude around 5pm. Further details of the conference will appear here as they become available.
The International Commission on the History of Mathematics (ICHM) will be holding a satellite event on Friday 6th March 2026 at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford. The ICHM will contribute up to £100 towards the Friday night accommodation of any Research in Progress student speakers who would also like to attend this event.
